Meet the Team

Natural gas is a tightly regulated and vital energy utility with a highly complex and widely distributed infrastructure. In simple terms, the national gas network generates, processes, stores and distributes huge quantities of natural gas to industry, public sector facilities and millions of homes across the length and breadth of the UK.

Apart from the final few feet of Low Pressure (LP) pipework and the gas meter under their stairs, the general public are unaware of this vast utility. At the heart of the gas infrastructure is a vast transmission and distribution network which stores and transmits highly flammable natural gas at multiple pressures utilising a vast range of technologies of varying ages.

For many years, PM Group has been providing a wide range of engineering services to most of the major Gas Utility businesses in the UK, both via directly engaged assignments and through a number of framework agreements. We have played our part in keeping the network safe and functional and are fortunate to have been involved with some of the most iconic projects designed to improve the safety and reliability of the gas distribution infrastructure.

The gas sector represents around 30% of our total business in the UK and we have a constant portfolio of projects in the development and delivery phases for clients including; National Grid, Cadent, SGN and Air Liquide.

We deliver detailed design for cross country pipelines, diversions, offtakes and AGI’s at all pressures and also carry out all of the associated project and cost management, construction management, quantity surveying and specialist project services to ensure that projects are delivered within budget and on time.

In addition to the above services, we have a great deal of experience in a range of more specialist areas including; Biogas and Anaerobic Digestion, Gas upgrading, Gas to Grid Injection and Onshore Gas/Utility Pipelines. We have personnel with highly developed skills in both the Bioenergy and Natural Gas sectors.

PM Group is almost unique in that we have personnel with highly developed skills in both the Bioenergy and Natural Gas sectors. Whilst the combination of these skills would have been seen as irrelevant just a few years ago, this special combination of skills and experience is now highly sought after given the drive towards the upgrading of Biogas for injection into the Natural Gas System.

PM Group can design and implement all elements of a Gas to Grid project from the Biogas generation plant, through gas clean-up, odourisation, metering, pressure control and connection to the gas main infrastructure.

Gas Industrial

The Gas Utility sector is subject to the requirements of a range of legislative requirements, some of which are specific to this sector. Over the years, we have gained a great deal of experience in the practical and pragmatic application of a vast range of legal requirements as well as the application of current ‘good practice’ measures. Specific experience of key legislation and international standards including IGEM, API, GIRS and ASME, to the extent that we have both written and delivered training courses on IGEM Standards on behalf of IGEM. PM Group is an IGEM Affiliate as well as an Achilles UVDB ‘qualified’ business, meaning that we are subject to regular monitoring and auditing by Achilles.

This knowledge and experience allows us to support our clients to allow them to obtain and maintain their compliance with current legislation and ensure that the relevant statutory provisions are complied with across all of their operations.
